Bhopal: College and school going children are the new targets of drug mafia as over 100 retail drug peddlers dealing in Charas are trying to penetrate their business in these educational institutions. The administration though is keeping a close watch on their activities but is yet to make any major breakthrough in clearing the drug menace.
The revelations made by two drug peddlers, who were arrested on Monday, claims that the drug mafia is targeting city’s colleges and schools for the distribution and sale of the charas and other drug. The police is all geared up destroy the multiple chains of the drug peddling, in coming days more arrest will be made in this connection.
On Monday Special Task Force had arrested two notorious drug peddlers and seized more than five kilogram of Charas from them. The court has sent the duo Mohammad Yusuf alias Lala, a resident of Tila Jamalpura Bhopal and Upendra Mahato, a resident of Motihar of Bihar to police remand till September 14.
During the interrogation, Mahato confessed that he was bringing the Charas from Bihar. Mahto, who is the second chain of peddling, said that Cannabis (local name Charas) is been brought from Nepal to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. He used to bring around 5 kilogram of Charas twice a month and would sell it to the third chain who are three in number in the city. The three distributers would sell the drug to more than 100 retailers in the city.
These retailers are selling the Charas to the college students, auto drivers, hawkers, vendors and others. The single dose, which can give a day long addiction, costs between Rs 150 to 200. The STF is now looking for three more gangs that are operating in the state capital.
