Bhopal: Taking up the cause of the women, the state government on Sunday announced a slew of measures to ensure their social and financial security. The government has announced to provide financial assistance of Rs two lakh for marriage of the widows, besides the Below Poverty Line (BPL) status will no longer be required for sanctioning pension to them. The government also relaxed the physical fitness parameters for women in police constable recruitment. There is also good news for couples working in government establishments as husband and wife will possibly be posted at one place.
The chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made these announcements while talking to women on AIR and Doordarshan in his Dil Se programme on Sunday. Chouhan also announced to launch Prime Minister Matru Vandana Yojana for all pregnant women and lactating mothers to ensure prober monitoring of their health. He declared to provide relaxations to female candidates in physical fitness parameters for recruitment as police constable. He also announced to make available sanitary napkins at fifty percent price in predominantly tribal blocks.
In his address, the chief minister called upon the people to encourage marriage of widows and root out the social evils like dowry and child marriages. Reiterating his commitment to providing safety to daughters, Chouhan said that all measures have been taken to stop crime against women. State Government will bring strict law to punish those involved in crime against women. Chouhan said that stringent law would be enacted soon to award capital punishment to rape convicts, while for molestation the culprits would be given 10 years rigorous punishment, he said. He further informed that provisions are being thought out not to give bail to accused in rape cases without listening to government pleader. He also extended greetings on Karva Chauth saying that prosperity stays where women are respected.
Speaking on the safety of schoolchildren, Chouhan said that school buses equipped with CCTV camera would be allowed to prevent eve-teasing and any type of child abuse. Chouhan said the offices of gram panchayat will have Women Self Help Group desk. The women’s SHGs would be given the task of preparing school uniforms. A comprehensive portal of women SHGs would be created.
