Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh skipped the grand ‘akrosh rally’ organised by the Congress party and well attended by it top leaders from across the country in Delhi on Sunday signalling widening rift in the party. Not only that, the heavyweight leader also gave a miss to the Congress core committee meeting called by the newly-appointed Congress state president Kamal Nath and state in charge Deepak Babaria to discuss strategies and other internal issues of the party.
To everybody’s wonder, instead of attending these important party events, Digvijay rather preferred to attend a marriage ceremony organised by Rajput community in the city on the day. He, accompanied by his wife Amrita Rai, later spent the day attending family functions in Sehore and Kurwai.
It must be noteworthy here that on seeking his reaction on the recent appointment of Kamal Nath as Congress state president to strengthen the party, the former CM said “Answer would be received in December, 2018 (expected time for Assembly elections in the state).”
Meanwhile, Singh’s mysterious absence in Delhi made the changing political equations and rift in the Congress party quite visible and loud. Sources said some major leaders in the state Congress were not in favour of keeping Singh on the frontline during the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Notably, during his maiden Bhopal visit after his Narmada Parikrama earlier in the year, Digvijay, in a conversation with media, had said he would soon take out a political yatra (rally) after its outlines were finalised by the state Congress. In view of this, the Congress leader’s absence in major party events indeed raised many questions and speculations.
