BHOPAL: For the first time in police recruitments, 33 per cent reservation for women was allocated, but only around 10 per cent women qualified in the preliminary round for the jobs, as around 3,000 posts remained vacant of all categories in the recruitments.

ADG selections Pragya Richa Shrivastava informed Free Press that in 2016, the police department issued the notification to recruit on 14,283 posts. The professional examination board conducted the written exam.

Out of this number, 4,761 posts were reserved for women, but only 1,037 were able to pass the written exam.

The appointment process after physical exam is under process and more candidates can again disqualify for the appointment, on the basis of height and other physical disorders. She added in the general and OBC categories posts are filled, but thousands of schedule tribe and schedule caste category men and women candidates were not able to qualify. She said the recruitments were being made in 13 categories, like constable GD, constable driver, constable cook, constable barber, constable washer man, constable cobbler, constable water carrier, constable sweeper, constable mason, constable bugler, constable peon, head constable computer and ASI computer.

For the first time the police department is recruiting computer professionals, as the department is in the process of digitalisation. At least 250 posts of computer head constables and ASIs were notified to be filled.

49,000 called

Shrivastava said against one post, five candidates were scheduled to be called for the physical exam, which made for around 70,000 candidates, but due to cut off marks and other issues around 49,000 candidates were called for the exam. Now it is planned that the women candidates will be given physical training with the help of NGOs so that they can pass the exam scheduled in the ‘police recruitment 2017’.

‘Biggest online exam in country’s history’

Director of PEB Bhaskar Lachakar informed Free Press that the police constable recruitment exam of 2016 was conducted online in 13 cities and at 90 colleges, in 54 shifts, in 18 days.

“This is biggest ever exam conducted online in the history of our country,” he claimed.  At least 9,28,613 candidates were scheduled to appear in the exam, but 6,91,415 appeared. Vigilant PEB officials averted the fake candidates or impersonators to become the part of the exam.

“The biometric verifications and photograph matching made the work easy to identify the fake and the original candidates and not even a single examinee was permitted to enter the examination hall without verifications and proper papers,” he added.
