Bhopal: Parents are not interested in getting their wards admitted to every private school under RTE. They want their children should get admitted only to the best schools. The date of admission under Right to Education (RTE) has been extended to June 6, from May 31.

Under the RTE scheme, in the state around 4 lakh seats are available and till May 30, around 1,83,000 admissions were given for the academic year 2017-18. Under the scheme the admissions are given in Class 1. In the academic session of 2016-17, in Class 1, around 7.62 lakh students had taken admissions in the schools, including 3.76 lakh boys and 3.85 lakh girls.

In the same year, around 1.90 lakh admissions were given under the RTE scheme.

The reason behind the lesser intake in private schools is very interesting. Many parents in Bhopal wanted that their children got admission to very prominent schools of their area, like DPS, Sanskar Valley, Campion School, St Joseph’s Convent and the like. They did not want admissions to other second or third category schools. In place of going to these schools they preferred government schools. Not only in Bhopal, the thought is prevalent around the state as parents are thinking on same lines.

Under the scheme the first preference is given to the students living in the nearest area of the school and as their distance increases their claims get weakened.

In this turmoil many seats remained vacant and the students did not get the admissions. The admission is given online and the choice of school is set by the applicant, but the allotment is done by online process. No manual work is done, to prevent any manipulations.  RTE cell in-charge of Rajya Shiksha Kendra (RSK) Ramakant Tiwari said the scheme was prepared for the SC/ST, de-notified communities, forest dwellers, BPL card holders and children having over 40 per cent disabilities.
