The selection of candidate for Govindpura seat of the city is becoming a problem for the BJP. According to sources the demand to give BJP ticket to Krishna Gaur, who is daughter-in-law of former Chief Minister Babulal Gaur, from Govindpura seat is intensifying.
Congress, seeing the stance of Gaur and his daughter-in-law, is keeping in touch with them. Congress treasurer Govind Goyal on Saturday reached Gaur’s residence and held a closed-door meeting for half-an-hour.
According to sources, senior Congress leaders have spoken to Gaur. Krishna is being offered ticket by Congress from Govindpura seat. The followers of Krishna maintain that if she does not get ticket than she would contest as independent candidate.
Krishna said she wished to contest elections from Govindpura seat and she hoped that the party would do justice with her. She said she does not promote family politics and sons of several leaders have been given tickets. Krishna said she had been working for the party for several years.
The BJP workers of Govindpura seat including corporators and office bearers convened a significant meeting at Ravidas Mandir over ticket to Krishna. A strong demand, that Krishna should be given ticket from Govindpura emerged from the meeting.
On the other hand, sources said that it is almost final that Vishnudutt Sharma, who is BJP state general secretary, would be given ticket from Govindpura seat, under the pressure of the RSS. Sources said that the top-level office bearers of the Sangh have recommended Sharma’s name.
