Bhopal: A section of guest faculty and youths have raised the demand of fresh recruitment of assistant professors after the controversies in selection through Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) in 2017 surfaced. Jabalpur High Court has put a stay on issuing appointment letters to the candidates selected in the process after it found that reservation roster was not followed.
There are about a dozen writ petitions pending in the court challenging the process adopted in appointments. A section of guest faculty and some youth organisations have now demanded holding of afresh recruitment of professors after the previous process got mired into controversies.
One of the petitioners, D P Singh said that recruitment through PSC in 2017 was so flawed that the higher education department had to change the rules and conditions for more than two dozen times. Moreover, interview part too was scrapped at the last moment- much against the established norms. Reservation roster was not followed, therefore these appointments got into trouble.
“The way higher education has thrown all rules to wind, it is sure that these appointments won’t stand in court of law. Therefore fresh recruitment process should be started following all the rules,” said Singh. There are more than 4500 vacancies in the higher education department while the government of the day started recruitment drive only for 3422 posts. More vacant posts should be added and advertised for recruitment, said Jyoti Shah, member of a group working for youths.
Last recruitment for professors was done in 1992. After a long gap in 2014, the BJP government ordered recruitment but was cancelled later after a section of people objected on the basic rules and regulations changed for the recruitment. In 2016 recruitment was advertised again with some amendments. Objections were made here also raising issue of State Eligibility Test (SET).
After crossing several hurdles finally government advertised recruitment for 3422 posts of assistant professors in 2017. However, it they too were shrouded in controversy following allegations of non-adherence to the reservation roster. The delegation under Singh has planned to meet CM Kamal Nath to press for cancellation of recruitment made in BJP regime and demand a fresh process for the recruitment.
