Barely 1L Parsis are not only safe but also successful in India, he said
Bhopal: The Dalai Lama has said that India was, basically, a land of religious harmony and that politicians were responsible for the occasional conflicts and violence between various religious communities.
The Tibetan spiritual leader, who enjoys the status of head of state in India, was speaking at a function here on Sunday.
He said that the Indians can proudly proclaim to the world that here is a country where various religious streams can not only co-exist but also flourish. “The fact that the Parsis, who number barely in 100,000 in a country of 1.28 billion, are not only safe in India but are exceptionally successful is a testimony to this fact”, he said, quoting the examples of the Tatas and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
He said that no religion is superior to others. “I am a Buddhist to the core but I do not believe that Buddhism is the best religion”, he said. “Whether it is Islam or Christianity or Hinduism or Judaism – all are equal and all should be respected”, he said.
The gods of all theistic religions are epitomes of love and compassion. “Have you ever seen a god seething with anger?” He asked, adding that “How can you then fight in the name of gods?”
