Controversy has erupted over a program organised by MP Culture Department where National School of Drama (NSD) pass-outs have been invited to mull over culture scenario in MP. Artists from other communities have raised question on such program terming it an effort for creating rift between the artists. Hitting hard on the program, theatre artist Ajay Shrivastav said that NSDians are being invited to mull over culture scene of the state.

“Is it only the NSDians that have contributed to culture of our state? What about names like Alakhnandan, Arun Pandey, Basant Kashikar, Sanjay Mehta, Nazeer Qureshi….have they not contributed anything or artists of their stature and repute would go unrecognized because they are not from NSD,” wrote Ajay on his Facebook wall. Ajay said that culture department should answer as to why only artists from NSD have been invited and not from other institutes like Film and Television Institute or the Bhartendu Natya Academy. Moreover, the objective of such program on which lakhs of rupees would be spent is not clear, he added.

Senior theater actor and director Sanjay Mehta said CM had organised panchayats of various communities but not for artists. This effort of Shivraj government is an effort to divide the artist community therefore I appeal CM to hold artist panchayat as soon as possible. Several other senior artists lauded facebook post of Ajay Shrivastava and agreed with the idea of holding a common gathering for the artist. Director, Culture Department, Akshay Singh said that it is only a beginning. “NSD pass-outs will gather here to mull over culture scenario of the state.

This is only a beginning by the culture department and later other groups too would be invited for the same purpose,” said Singh. He said that people raise objections on all sort of initiatives. NSD pass out and faculty at MP School of Drama, Alok Chatterjee said that it is happening for the first time in history of MP. NSDians from MP are trying to form alumni; we all will prepare a road map for culture scene here. We will also see what can be done for the upcoming talents, he added.
