Hoshangabad: The emerging cracks in the newly built building of regional transport officer (RTO), built by project implementation unit (PIU) of public works department (PWD) is raising questions about the quality of its construction. The building has cost more than Rs 6 crore.
The PIU, PWD has written to RTO to take possession of the building but the later has informed its senior officials about the cracks in the building. A committee has been constituted to inspect the building prior to taking its possession. Meanwhile, sub-divisional
officer (SDO) of PIU, PWD maintains that the contractor of the building will undertake building’s maintenance free of cost for two years from the date of building completion.
On the other hand, officials said the matter is not about repairing of damage but about the cracks in the building. Another interesting fact is the building was supposed to be built for Rs 5.91 crore but it cost Rs 6.34 crore. Moreover, it also took more
time to complete. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had performed its Bhumipujan on October 2, 2017.
The building is situated 2 kilometres from divisional headquarters in ITI area and is spread across 1.011 hectares of land. The construction work was allotted to Bhagwandas Agarwal of Nasarullahganj, Sehore, who completed the construction of the building on March 31, 2017.
The building has fitness track, utility unit, boundary wall and driving track. The building is set in 2728 square meter area while driving track is in 480 square metre area.
Department of transport has got the building of new office built through PIU, PWD. The concerned construction agency has sent a letter to take possession of the building. Cracks could be seen in the walls of rooms in the building and its information has been given to senior officers.
