Sehore: The court of the second ADJ of Ashta has ordered the attachment of vehicles and other properties of the water resources department. The order was issued as the department had not paid the compensation for the land acquired from 21 farmers.
Mahendra Maheshwari, a lawyer from Bhopal, who pleaded the case on behalf of the farmers said that in 2007-08, the department had acquired 145 acres of land of 21 farmers for construction of Manirampura Pond. The land was acquired in village Jheekdi.
The land acquisition office had fixed the rate of compensation for non-irrigated land at Rs 1.84 lakh and of irrigated land at Rs 2.90 lakh per acre. The farmers found the rate low and moved court.
The second ADG GP Agarwal, in his judgment, had ordered that the farmers be paid at the rate of Rs 3.34 lakh per acre for irrigated land and Rs 2.23 lakh for irrigated land. The total amount due to the 21 farmers came to Rs 35.14 lakh. The department had agreed to pay the amount to the farmers in July 2016. However, the department was yet to make the payment.
The court has ordered the attachment of moveable assets of the department including vehicles, furniture, computers etc. The lawyer said that the process of attachment would begin soon.
The state government has been apprised of the court order. The government will soon allocate the required funds and payment would be made to the farmers
