BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh is the fifth topper in the country in the use of cough syrups and pills for. The government’s plan to ban liquor may increase the alternate consumption of these drugs.
The police department has sent the report to the government of India recently, in which it is stated that in the state the use of cough syrups and pills were increasing.
Recently a film based on drug pills was screened and the problem of Punjab was raised in the film.
In 2016, the police seized 4,42,654 pills and 11,704 bottles of cough syrup. In 2014 8,253 drug pills were seized and no cough syrup was found.
In the last two years the use of pills and syrups has increased.
In 2015, the police seized 53,734 cough syrup bottles and 9,500 pills stored to give to addicted people.
The top states in this are Mizoram, Delhi, Punjab and Gujarat, followed by Madhya Pradesh.
The police have made huge efforts to nab drug peddlers. In 2016 they seized 18.60 kilogram heroin, 116.49 kg opium, 88.51 kg hashish, 6,506.51 kg ganja and others.
The prime consumers are the youth and the labour class people, who having less money use the second way of satiating their addiction needs. Moreover they can buy pills and syrup publicly stating they are under medical observation.
The increased numbers are the result of the free sale of syrups and pills through chemists, whereas from time to time the drug controller’s department instructs the chemists to not sale drugs, without doctor’s prescription.
