BHOPAL: Policemen will not hesitate to open fire at miscreants if they see modesty of a girl being outraged, said New Inspector General of Police (IG) Bhopal Yogesh Deshmukh.
Deshmukh while speaking to mediapersons, said that the crime against women will not be tolerated and now offenders will have to be cautious rather than girls.
He said, “There are provisions in the IPC that give us the right to open fire if we see anything is wrong.”
“The cops are not there to see the crime happening. In order to prevent it, we have the right to open fire,” he added.
Justifying his statement, he said, “The cops are not meant to be mute spectators and we can go to the permissible extent to stop it.”
He further said that the crime prevention was not the sole responsibility of police and that every section of society has a role to play for the safety. Contd. on P10
He also assured that criminals will have to be aware that police will take action and no one will be allowed to roam scot free if he commits crime.
Deshmukh said that even the fault of cops will not be tolerated “as in the incident of rape and murder of minor girl, we suspended 7 policemen who prima facie appeared to be at fault”.
He said that a cumulative effort is needed for any change and that the cops alone cannot prevent crime.
