Bhopal Cops Attacked At Irani Mohalla, 18 Booked

The incident took place when the police team had gone to investigate into a case of firing on some jewellers some days back.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): More than three policemen were injured when a group of people including women surrounded and attacked them at Irani Mohalla under Budhar police station of Shahdol on Friday night.

The incident took place when the police team had gone to investigate into a case of firing on some jewellers some days back. An FIR has been registered against 18 persons including seven women in this connection, police officials said.

According to reports, a team of cops at Budhar police station received a tip-off that a bike used by the suspects was spotted at Irani Mohalla. TI Sanjay Jaiswal said a team under head constable Shankar Prajapati was sent for investigation but the police vehicle could not enter the locality as the road was narrow.

The residents of the locality had assembled as Maharajganj police of Uttar Pradesh was also present there to investigate into a case of theft. Meanwhile, constable Balbhadra Singh of Budhar police station questioned one Feroz Ali regarding the bike used in incident of firing on jewellers. Soon Feroz’s kin and residents of the locality came in his support and surrounded the constable.

Other policemen rushed to the scene when locals started arguing with Balbhadra Singh.

However, they misbehaved with the police team and pelted cops with stones. Feroz fled the spot while taking advantage of the situation. Constables Balbhadra Singh, Ashish Tiwari and woman constable Sarita Singh received injuries in the assault while other cops Krishna Mishra, and driver Krishna Tiwari also received bruises.

Meanwhile, denying the incident of attack on the police team, SP Shahdol Kumar Prateek said that the team was questioning a suspect in a case of fraud when some persons including women misbehaved with them.

An FIR has been registered against 18 persons for obstructing government work and other relevant sections of BNS, he added.

Names in FIR

Those named in the FIR were Feroz Ali Jafri, his daughters Kashish and Sufia along with Fareeda Begum, Gulhasan, Sitara, Nigar Sultana, Reshma, Asharfi Begum, Arfa, Khushruba, Manohar Ali, Fiza Begum, Hussain Ali, Sabar Husain, Sadir, Khanu Husain, Akram’s wife and four unidentified persons.

Other states’ police carrying out raids

Police officials said that besides local police, cops from Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan are also carrying out raids at Irani Mohalla in search of suspects involved in cases of theft. Maharajganj police of Uttar Pradesh has detained one Yusuf Ali in a case of theft while Chhattisgarh police is searching for Tauhid Ali wanted in a case of theft of jewellery worth Rs 65 lakh.
