Bhopal: The consumers using air-conditioner and heater would not be given the benefit of Indira Griha Jyoti Yojana. Energy minister Priyavrat Singh said the scheme would cover people consuming 1000 watt of electricity but those using ACs and heaters won’t be covered under the scheme. The scheme would be launched from February 25. The scheme is said to be quite important from Lok Sabha polls, point of view as over 62 lakh consumers are set to benefit from the scheme. The scheme was approved by the cabinet recently.
How it works
The consumers of SC/ST categories under BPL category will get the benefit of Indira Griha Jyoti Yojana and would get relaxation from energy charges and fuel charges. If the electricity consumption is more than 100 units then the consumers have to pay energy charges, FCA, meter charges and power fee.
The consumer will also have to pay the difference in amount if the consumption of electricity is more than 100 units. Power distribution companies would not add any other units, other than set standards by Power Regulatory Commission, in the bill. There would be clear mention of the subsidy in electricity bill given by the government. Power distribution companies have been given instructions to make changes in the software to benefit the consumers from the next billing. Other subsidies for domestic consumers will continue.
