BHOPAL: Congress MLAs created commotion in the House during the Question Hour on Thursday over electricity bills. Congress members, dissatisfied with the reply of the minister, staged a walkout.
MLA Sukhendra Singh said as many as 80,000 electricity meters in his constituency are out of order but the bills are being issued to the customers.
Energy minister Paras Jain admitted that 14359 electricity meters are out of order. He said the bills have been issued on the basis of estimated consumption. Jain said the bills have been issued on the basis of rates conforming to the rules set by Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Singh said when meters are out of order then what is the relevance of issuing bills? Deputy leader of opposition Bala Bachchan claimed that faulty electricity bills have been issued across the state. Bachchan demanded to get all the meters checked. Earlier, Mukesh Nayak raised the issue of power supply in village Badkhera of his constituency.
He claimed that there was no power supply for the past nine months and transformers have not been changed. MLA Saraswati Singh too raised the issue of electricity bills and said when power companies can issue bills on the basis of estimates hen why do they installs electricity meters.
