Bhopal: The Congress lashed out at the state government on a wide range of issues ranging from farmers’ agitation to malnutrition at Lahar during a public meeting organised here on Monday to mark the culmination of the party’s Kisan Swabhiman Yatra.
All state Congress satraps, including Digvijay Singh, Jyotirditya Scindia and Kamal Nath, were present on the dais to project a united face of the party. Ajay Singh and Arun Yadav also addressed the gathering.
Lahar, in Bhind, is the constituency of senior party MLA Dr Govind Singh and he was the chief organiser of the event, which drew around 50,000 persons. Addressing the gathering, Member of Parliament Jyotiraditya Scindia accused the state government of doing injustice to farmers. “Now the time has come to uproot the BJP government, because instead of in place of protecting the farmers they have driven them to death. The farmer is a beard giver, but the government have impoverished them”, the MP said.
Former CM Digvijay Singh supported the memorandum of MLA Govind Singh, which has called for complete waiver of loans of the farmers. He also demanded compensation of Rs 50 lakh and government job for the kin of farmers who had committed suicide. AICC general secretary Mohan Prakash claimed the UPA government had waived off farmers’ loan of Rs 72,000 crore in the year 2008. The government took the decision on their own as then no demand was made by any farmer association or the state governments, he added.
Leader of opposition Ajay Singh in his addressed assured that if Congress forms government in 2018 elections, it will give free electricity for 5 horse pumps and also single connection.
