Nagda: In order to highlight the ‘pain’ caused to the common man, farmers, labourers and small businessmen due to scrapping of old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 by the NDA government on November 8, 2016, the Congress party organised a ‘Jan Vedana Sammelan’ at tehsil and block level in different districts across the state on Sunday.

The ‘sammelan’ (conference) was attended by top leaders of the party and a large number of villagers, including women. Blaming the NDA government at the Centre for “financial anarchy” and mismanagement, Congress leaders said that “People are still suffering because of demonetisation, and Congress gave them voice through its ‘Jan Vedana’ campaign.

Under this nationwide campaign, Nagda unit of the party organised a ‘Jan Vedana’ programme here on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, Madhya Pradesh Congress general secretary Deelip Singh Gurjar said “Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi forgot all the promises about black money and inflation he made to the country people at the time of demonetisation decision.”

“In fact during these 100 days of note ban the BJP government has proved that their government cares about only a few industrialists, about 100 selected big business families and not about the rest 120 crore Indians,” he added.

City congress president Subodh Swami, MLA Kamlesh Chawand, district Women Congress president Nisha Chauhan and Omprakash Morya addressed the villagers.

According to sources, “Over 7,000 programmes including about 500 in Madhya Pradesh are being organised as a part of campaign launched by the Opposition Congress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also sent invitation of these events through twitter. A chair is kept vacant at these programmes for him, so that he can attend and hear people’s problems”.

‘State govt responsible for farmers’ suicide’

Gandhwani: Addressing the ‘sammelan’ here on Sunday, Congress leaders taking a dig at Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in the state, said “Though our Chief Minister claims to be a son of farmer, condition of farmers is the state is pity. Hundreds of farmers committed suicide after they failed to fetch good price for their crops and the state government is responsible for this.”  Congress MLA Umang Singhar said, “His party will never tolerate atrocity on tribals”. Many senior leaders including block Congress president Satpal Barnala and others were present on the occasion.

Memo to Prez demanding rollback of note ban

Alot: A ‘Jan Vedana Sammelan’ was held at Barkhedakala village, wherein block Congress president Dr Yogendra Singh Jadone addressed a large number of villagers and party workers. He said, farmers and labourers are the most affected by demonetization. On the occasion, party workers also submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional magistrate Veer Singh Chouhan addressing the President of India requesting to roll back the demonetisation decision.

‘No word from PM on the issue now’

Unhel: Members of Unhel block Congress organised the ‘sammelan’ here at Old Bus Stand on Sunday. Block Congress committee president Waqeeluddin Qureshi, state Congress secretary Rameshwar Patel, Youth Congress national secretary Hemant Singh Chauhan, former panchayat member Keshar Singh Anjana addressed the gathering.

Rameshwar Patel said that the decision of demonetisation by Modi government has led to an economic emergency in the country leading to various problems for citizens. Hemantsingh Chauhan quoting Modi— “Hit me with footwear on the roads if demonetisation does not prove fruitful”—said  “Now after 100 days of demonetisation, there’s no word of Modi on the issue.” Qureshi said that pictures of Modi and CM Chauhan have been put on the stage so that they take up the responsibility of answering the mob.
