Bhopal: Congress ex-MLA, family names go missing from voters list, CEO orders probe

Bhopal: Chief election officer on Monday ordered an inquiry into the deletion of names of Congress former MLA from Tikamgarh and its family from the electoral roll. Yadvendra Singh, who served as minister during Congress rule, alleged that his and names of his family members have been deleted from the voters’ list. The matter came to fore on Sunday, when the former legislator was going through the revised list.

While talking to media here, Singh claimed that names of his family members and his had figured in first list but in the revised list, the names were missing. “Our names have been deleted and it’s a conspiracy against the Congressmen to keep them away from the polling,” alleged the ex-MLA.

Chief election officer, V.L. Kantha Rao in a press conference here said that commission has taken note of the matter and an inquiry has been instituted in it. He also stated that Congressmen have filed complaints claiming that around 11,000 names of the voters in Narela Constituency have been repeated in the electoral roll. They have demanded an investigation into the anomaly and also removal of duplicate names, said Rao.

The last date of accepting claims and objections has been extend from August 21 to August 31. The final list will be published on September 27. The first level checking of 98.2 per cent ballot unit, 99 per cent of control unit and 75.27 per cent of VVPAT have been completed, informed the CEO.

The first Level Checking (FLC) of VVPAT in 31 districts has been completed and in the rest 20 districts 141 engineers are undertaking the work. ECI will appoint supervisor on every 10 BLOs to monitor their working. In the state 65,340 polling stations will be formed and on every 10 stations one supervisor will be appointed.

CEO office joins social media club

Ahead of the Assembly elections, CEO office has also joined the social media. The office has come up with tweeter account ‘CEOMPElection2018’, Facebook account ‘ceompsveep’ and has also opened a YouTube account. The CEO will keep a tight watch on the social media messages.
