Bhopal: The year’s first council meet of Bhopal Municipal Corportaion (BMC) witnessed acrimonious scenes as the Congress corporators sought probe into alleged scams. Buoyed by the formation of their party’s government in the state, the Congress corporates, cornered the ruling BJP in council over alleged diesel tanker scam, irregularities in tender allotment, non-development of Transport Nagar and others which surfaced in past few years. At the beginning of the meet, Vande Mataram was played in the hall.

The Congress corporators demanded probe into the alleged diesel tanker scam stating that inquiry into it could not be initiated even after the transfer of three commissioners. Alleging irregularities in the allotment of tenders, Congress corporator Girish Sharma demanded probe into it and sought action against officers responsible for it. He alleged that during the cleanliness survey, tenders were allotted to a number of NGOs but there is no specific information about the work done by them and the amount sanction to these organisations.

Congress corporators demanded action against the ones who were involved in allocating tenders of crores of rupees to some privileged contactors. Taking up the issue of Transport Nagar which could not be developed in last many years, the opposition corporators demanded action against developers who had taken the land but failed to develop it. They also alleged that only a selected few were repeatedly allotted tender of garden. The issue of role of public representatives in Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Limited (BSCDCL) was also taken up at the meeting.

The corporators of the two parties opined that smart city authority should also take advantage of the experience of the public representatives and they involvement should also be welcomed. When Congress corproators inquired about the projects being undertaken by the BSCDCL, the Mayor claimed that he too was unaware of its activities and has no role in the smart city and that officials were solely managing all the show.
