BHOPAL: The ambitious farm loan waiver scheme of Congress didn’t provide any mileage to the party in the LS elections in the state. Not only this, people rather believed BJP’s take on the scheme and Congress claims and assurance on the scheme failed to evoke a pro-Congress stance in the public. Those responsible for loan waiver at the ground level, including bank workers and other officials also failed to take the scheme to the people and failed to ward off the confusion related to the scheme. These were some conclusions that emerged out of the Congress’ core committee meeting on party’s drubbing in LS election in state despite taking up pro farmers and people initiatives.
The core committee discussed the reasons of the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, said ex- member of parliament Jyotiraditya Scindia, after attending the committee meeting, here on Saturday. Congress party core committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of the chief minister Kamal Nath in which all top leaders and the office bearers of AICC. Scindia further added that “No discussion on new Congress state president was done in the meeting.”
He added, “Issue related to the BJP propaganda against the Congress and MP government was taken up in the meeting. Our first priority is to counter the propaganda.”
He informed that four-five issues related to the LS election were discussed in the meeting. Whereas in the meeting most of the members who had contested LS election and had lost including Digvijaya Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kantilal Bhuria, Ram Niwas Rawat, Arun Yadav, Vivek Tankha discussed the reasons of defeat.
Ex-LoP Ajay Singh blamed the EVM for the defeat. Earlier it was informed that the Committee will discuss many issues, after LS elections drubbing. Party has come up with an strategy to respond to BJP’s propaganda including frequent claims to topple the government. In the ensuing local bodies elections- Committee may strategise so that the party may not face the distressing defeat in the elections. AICC general secretary Deepak Bawaria four AICC secretaries Sudhanshu Trivedi, Sanjay Kapoor, youth welfare minister Jitu Patwari, home minister Bala Bachchn, working committee president Ram Niwas Rawat, MP Congress general secretary Surendra Choudhary, state vice president Chandra Prabhas Shekhar and general secretary Rajiv Singh were present at the meeting.
