BHOPAL: “It’s all in our head. I think the condition of women is better than earlier. They are safer now. No doubt, the vision and thought of society towards women is still old but we will have to learn to stick to our stand. There is no need to be confined to the restrictions that we have to do this or that only,” said TV actor Sneha Wagh on women safety. She was in the City of Lakes to promote the show ‘Sher-E-Punjab – Maharaja Ranjit Singh’.
Addressing media persons at Jehan Numa Palace Hotel on Friday, the actor, who is playing Raj Kaur, mother of the visionary king said, “I’m playing royal character who is very strict and a protective mother at times. It is a very colourful character which I really enjoyed a lot. It is always the mother who inculcates moral and ethical values in her child and Raj Kaur is no different,” she said adding, “It is historical and not a religious show. We just tried to portray the historical character with emotion without tampering the fact.” On being asked about challenges, she said, “For the first time, I am playing a historical character; earlier I played realistic characters. So, for this, I had to wear very heavy attires and jewellery to look like a queen. And also I had to learn Punjabi.”
Sharing her professional journey, the actor said, “At the age of three, my mother forced me to learn classical dance. So I learnt Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam et al and also some Indian folk dances and won many awards doing them. But my parents wanted to make me an engineer though my interest was in acting. So, I started my career at the age of 17 from Marathi theatre and after that I did many TV shows. I also did Marathi films.”
“I enjoy working for TV because here we can elaborate our emotions more in comparison to film and theatre. After acting, I want to go for direction. I did filmmaking course from London Film Academy.”
