Bhopal: The lack of awareness and negligent attitude of the civic body authorities is failing the purpose of multilevel parking in new market. Leader of opposition in the Bhopal Municipal Corporation Mohammad Sageer said that the police and district administration should ensure that the vehicles are not parked at the areas except in spaces marked for parking as it promotes encroachment and congestion.
According to sources, the parking facility has suffered a loss of over Rs 30 thousand daily or Rs 9 lakh a month since it was e-inaugurated by the PM Narendra Modi on June 23. Parking facility can accommodate over 800 two wheelers while 1068 four wheelers at a time.However, only around 300 two wheelers and 150-250 four wheelers used this facility.
Whereas, area outside the parking is dotted by four wheelers and two wheelers which are parked either illegally or in the other parking in new market which causes congestion and encroachment of free space. Over 700 two-wheelers can be seen parked on the outer ring of new market which is paid parking of the area.
Interestingly the rate for both the parking is same, still people don’t prefer parking their vehicles in the multilevel parking. Charges for parking two wheelers are Rs 5 to Rs 15 for 24 hours and for four wheelers it is Rs 10 to Rs 30 for 24 hours. If the parking were running in its full capacity the revenue generated would be on an average Rs 42 thousand per day including two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
As per the data provided by the parking staff, on an average, less than 300 two-wheelers and 250 four-wheelers use this faculty at present. The average revenue thus comes out to be Rs 11 thousand a day. This indicates an average loss of Rs 30 thousand a day for the parking facility contractor. The parking has completed a month of its e-inauguration- thus it has costed the contractor an estimated loss of Rs 9 to 10 lakh.
Sonia Pathak, the representative of Middeck Company , which manages the facility, said that the loss has not been calculated yet as it is in its initial phase. Mahendra Jain, ASP traffic said that the police crane keeps moving in the area and tows away illegally parked vehicles. “If it continues then we will intensify our drive against illegal parking,” he added.
