BHOPAL: The state police have identified new communal hot spots in the state and are bracing to deal with the situation arising out of the communal riots being reported from otherwise peaceful regions of the state. The western parts of the state are prone to communal violence for long, especially Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Dewas and Burhanpur districts.

But this year, communal violence erupted in northern parts of the state including Gwalior and Bhind and also in eastern parts like Balaghat, Sagar and Vidisha.

Moreover, communal violence is now increasingly erupting in rural areas while earlier it was a mainly urban phenomenon.

IG law and order, Makrand Deouskar informed Free Press that the state police are drawing up plans to prevent and contain communal violence. This year, there will be only a day’s gap between Dusshera and Moharram and the police want to ensure that both the festivals pass off peacefully.

He added that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is being drawn up to deal with communal violence and it will be communicated to all the SPs.  The police, he said, wanted to plan in advance and be ready to deal with communal violence, if and when it erupts in any part of the state.
