Bhopal: Gandhi medical college (GMC) seems to have shrugged off its responsibility by just serving show cause notice to seniors instead of taking stern action against them in ragging case. Instead of punishing the guilty, the college administration has handed over to case police and is yet to lodge any complaint. Thus even is police is finding themselves helpless to proceed in the case and are waiting the college authorities to come up with the complaint.

However, sources said that the GMC authorities have verbally informed police about the ragging incident and are not keen in pursuing the case further with proper written complaint. It seems that they want the police to take cognizance of the incident and probe into it, said the sources.
College B-blocks juniors had accused their four senior of ragging them and have taken the matter to administration seeking action against them.

The administration had issued show cause notices against four seniors – Krishna Pal Singh, Atul Solanki, Jalas and Yash. They reported the matter to police, but no FIR has been registered in this connection as they are yet to receive any written complainant in the matter.
The half-hearted manner in which the college administration pursued the case has left many students piqued.

The students believe that the failure of the administration to take stern actions against the people responsible for the ragging have sent a wrong message. This has emboldened the people involved in such incidents, while the juniors are finding themselves in very vulnerable position.

Juniors are still being ragged even after show cause notices have been issues to the seniors involved, said sources. Neither juniors have gathered courage to directly take the matter to police, nor GMC administrationis ready to take cognizance and become party in complaining the matter to police.

As no complainants have come forward to get case registered against the accused, police is also in a fix. Recently a meeting of Anti-Ragging Committee was convened and the case was handed over to the police without mentioning the name of the victims. However no concrete steps are being taken to check incidents of ragging neither by the college administration, nor by the police. Convening of anti-ragging committee meeting, issuance of notices all seems to be just eyewash before media, and administration, said sources as nothing stern steps being taken.

Koh-e-Fiza SHO Anil Vajpayee said, “As there is no complainant in the matter so we are helpless even after ragging was reported to GMC administration. GMC may take action but we cannot until or unless, complainants come to file an FIR. However, GMC administration has given show cause notices to all the four identified seniors involved in ragging the juniors prima facie. Possibly GMC may opt to let off senior with simply warning as till now it is their internal matter. ”
