Bhopal: Former chief minister Digvijay Singh who is performing a circumambulation of Narmada river arrived to a rousing welcome in Jait on Tuesday. Jait is the ancestral village of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan located near Budhni.
Chief minister’s younger brother Narendra Singh Chouhan welcomed Singh and accompanied him as he traversed through the village. He also invited Singh for tea at his residence. Refreshments for those accompanying Singh were made at the residence of Chouhan.
Shivraj was shown black flags in Raghogarh, the hometown of Digvijay Singh, when he had visited it to campaign for civic elections. Singh, in his comments on the social media, has mentioned about the reception accorded to him at Jait. He has specially mentioned Narendra Chouhan.
By this gesture, the chief minister has sent a message that he does not have personal enmity against his political rivals and also that he does not want to do politics on Narmada river conservation.
Speculations were rife that Singh would exhibit show of strength in Jait. But the chief minister outmaneuvered Singh by extending him a warm welcome. Assembly elections are due in the state later this year. After completing his Narmada Yatra, Digvijay Singh is likely get active in state politics. The Jait reception is being seen as Chouhan’s attempt at waving the white flag.
Even after the formation of BJP government in the state, the relations between Singh and Chouhan were cordial. They turned bitter only after Singh organised a press conference where he levelled personal allegations against Chouhan in connection with the Vyapam scam. After this, an FIR was lodged by the state police against Singh. Since then, Singh has been consistently attacking Chouhan.
