Bhopal: The tall claims of police department of crime control have fallen flat, at least when we see the data of crime in last two years. The crime against women has also risen considerably in these two years.Data provided by the department shows, crime of all categories spiraled upwards between 2016 and 2018 in these two years except for murder which dipped by a approximately 10 per cent.

Inspector general (IG) Bhopal Jaydeep Prasad opined only fluctuation in the graph does not mean crime has increased. According to him the rise in crime data shows our police is registering cases and is not causing trouble to the complainants.

He added rise of crime is also because of rise in population. We have people coming from outside and it is the reason a rise in population is seen in the city. The ratio of crime usually remains proportional to population rise, he asserted. The number of murders that took place in 2016 was 72 but the figure came down to 65 in 2017 and 63 in 2018.
