Bhopal: Incessant rain continued to lash the state capital throughout the day while people were unfazed celebrating Eid marking end of month long fasting on Thursday. Low-lying slums were the affected badly. Bhopal recorded 2cm rainfall during the last 24 hours.
After the spell of heavy rain the water level in the Upper Lake increased up to 1655.30ft.
The unabated downpour caused some problems also. Trees were uprooted at many places including Modern Park (Char Imli), Vypam Chowk and New Market (TT Nagar Dusserhra Maidan). The BMC teams rushed to the spots and removed the uprooted trees from roads disrupting the traffic.
The rainwater inundated various areas like Piplani, Tulsi Nagar, Manorama Colony (Karond), E-7 Arera Colony, P&T Colony and other places. People complained from various areas after water entered their houses and ground floor flats. They had to siphon off water from their basement. Besides, alert has been sounded for heavy rain in Bhopal in the next 24 hours.
Water logging persisted in many areas at Hamidia Road, Nadra Bus Stand, Bhopal Talkies, Bharat Talkies and Jyoti Talkies. Besides, roadsides water logging is common at various places like Police Control Room, Jahangirabad, 1100 -Quarters, and others areas. As per the BMC call centre, trees uprooted at various areas.
Water logging also persisted at under-bridges like MP Nagar, Subhash Nagar posing problems to commuters as they had to wade through it. Roads were worn down by rain at various colonies as incessant rain washed away the bitumen layers creating potholes. In the walled city, drains overflowed throwing filth all over the roads particularly in Ibrahimpura, Itwara, Ginnori, Talaiya, Ashibag. Even in various colonies of New Bhopal, just because of choked drains, roads remained inundated blocking the traffic.
