Bhopal: Cash, liquor, narcotics, gold worth Rs 7.60 cr seized

Election commission has seized cash, liquor, narcotics and valuables like jewellery etc worth Rs 7.60 crores since the announcement of Lok Sabha polls. Chief Electoral Officer, VL Kantha Rao said that Rs 3,10,69,522 in cash have been seized since enforcement of model code of conduct. About 1.17 lakh litre of liquor worth Rs 2,79,94,424 have been seized till date.

Rao said that 198.44 Kg of narcotics too have been seized worth Rs 14,07,800. About 57.90 Kg of valuables like gold etc worth Rs 25,20855 and other seizures including vehicles, ammunition etc worth Rs 1,30,91,871 have been seized.  Giving details about preparedness on Lok Sabha polls, Rao informed that First Level Checking (FLC) of machines have been completed in all districts. State has 1,02,082 ballot unit (156%), 82,501 control unit (126%) and 84311 VVPAT (129%) available for elections.

About 9000 machines have been freed after order from High Court related to assembly election petitions. First randomization of machines will be done from March 28 to 30.  More than 10 lakh voters have been added since assembly elections in the electoral rolls. Number of voters have increased from 5.05 crore to 5.15 crore. Name of voters can be added till 10 days before of gazette notification.  Replying to a question, CEO said that speaker and deputy speaker of state assembly fall in ambit of model code like ministers etc.

Review meeting for first phase held in Jabalpur
Review meeting for first phase of polls was held in Jabalpur on March 23 where divisional commissioners of Jabalpur, Shahdol and Rewa, IG police and collectors of 13 districts were present. Six parliamentary constituencies will go to poll in fourth phase.

80 IAS, 26 IPS from state sent as observers
CEO Rao informed that 80 IAS officers, 26 IPS officers and 35 officers of state cadre have been sent as election observers in other states. First briefing of these officers has been done, second will be conducted on March 26.

Govt to submit proposal on Kolar delimitation
CEO said that no decision has been taken on Kolar delimitation exercise yet as Urban Administration Department would be submitting a report within a day or two.

Register and video footage sought from Mantralaya
Replying to a question, Rao said that video footage and visitors register has been sought from mantralaya. BJP general secretary, Kailash Vijayvargiya had met Rao few days ago and had complained that mantralaya is being used for political activities and raising funds. Rao said a report in this matter has been called from the chief secretary.
