Bhopal: Even as demand to put complete ban on liquor in the state is gaining ground day by day, the state government seems to be still mulling over the issue. However, the government needs to take note as in last 22 months over 3.78 lakh incidents of brawls and hooliganism by drunkards have been reported in the state. Complaints to Dail-100 in connection with such incidents have increased several folds since November 2015 to August 2017.
Superintendent of police Dial-100 Amit Saxena informed that in the month of November 2015, the cases of against drunkard were 3,544, which increased to 21,907 in March 2016. Since then the complaints are stagnant at 1000 to 2000 every month on Dial-100. As many as 22,691complaints complaints were received in the month of March 2017, which is the highest.
During this period, cases of illegal liquor sale were also reported. In November 2015, the there were only 22 cases, now the total cases have gone up to 24,323 in last 22 months. Every month 1000 to 1700 cases are reported about the illegal sale of liquor in the state. In last 22 months, 94091 cases of hooliganism by people in inebriated state have been reported.
In November 2015 around 1467 cases were reported, March 2016 they increased to 3849, in November 2016 the number of cases went up to 5360 and in the June 2017, in all 7651 cases were reported. The other case related to liquor consumption is gambling, in last 22 months 64,262 cases have been reported. In November, there were only 1,669 but they almost doubled up to 3,811 in the month of August 2016. During the Diwali last year, 5458 – the highest number of gambling cases were reported. Sexena said that cases of simple accident have been reported in huge number, in last 22 months over 2 lakh cases were reported. More than half of the accidents are related to drunken driving.
