Bhopal: A Cancer chemotherapy unit at each district hospital across the state has been set up. This has been done under Cancer Care Programme. The patients of Cancer will get free chemotherapy at district hospitals. A doctor and two staff nurses have been trained for the unit. Every district has a cancer expert doctor and medicines.
District hospitals have facility of reserved beds for cancer patients. Trained doctor has been providing follow-up treatment according to chemotherapy protocol. A palliative care centre has also been set up District Hospital, Ujjain, where medicines and treatment are offered free of cost.
Cancer patients are given facility of outsourcing testing free of charge. Trained doctor and staff nurse are imparted training to enhance their knowledge and skills. Telemedicine is being used to consult with cancer experts and treat the patients at district level.
So far 54 doctors and 102 staff nurses have been trained under Cancer Care programme. In 2017-18, 18,817 expected patients of cancer were registered. 4432 patients were treated according to Cancer chemotherapy protocol.
