Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a meeting with officers over the grant of 7th pay commission scales to the state government employees at Mantrayala on Friday. The proposal will be put up in the next meeting of the cabinet. The decision would entail an additional burden of Rs 4,500 crore on the state exchequer. If the new pay scales are implemented with effect from January 1, 2016, then the burden would zoom to Rs 8,000 crore.
It was decided at the meeting that the cabinet would first clear the grant of the 7th pay commission wages and the issue of arrears would be decided later. The arrears are to be paid in four installments. The state government had announced granting of pay commission scales to its employees in the budget for the fiscal year 2017-18. After the proposal is cleared by the cabinet, formal orders would be issued.
