Bhopal: Another incident of Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) shortsightedness and unplanned development has come to fore which cause wastage of the taxpayers money. BMC will remove all the bottle palms plants from central verger because they are found to be hindering electric wiring.
Admitting its callous approach BMC administration has admitted that they might have planted other verities of plants during beatifications of Link Road no-1 without much forethought. The road was developed as model road in the state capital.
BMC Deputy commissioner Bhagwandas Bhumarkar, who looks after horticulture cell said, “BMC will remove such trees if they have completed their natural age from central verge. Mistakenly, such bottle palms might have been planted in central verge. Definitely, such plants hinder the power supply due to their height.
If there is any scope of pruning, we will do it so that there would not any hindrance of wiring. In near future, we will take care of it.” Bottle palms cannot be pruned as they will lose their beauty. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s horticulture cell prunes plants just to avoid the hindrance and give a uniform shapes to enhance beauty of the plants in central verge.
Similar is the case with other localities also where series of bottle palms have been planted to beautify the roads and locality. According to experts it is an example of blatant disregard for the accountability on the part of BMC while spending taxpayer’s money. They maintain that it is a matter of common sense such plants are planted in parks not in middle of roads.
