Bhopal: Following the order of Central Bench of National Green Tribunal in Bhopal regarding the removal of dairies in Bairagarh area from July 10, Bhopal Municipal Corporation has so far removed 43 of them from the area. It has identified 132 dairies there and would continue its removal drive on Wednesday too.

NGT had on July 5, during a sitting on the issue of shifting of city dairies to seven new designated sites by BMC on the outskirts, ordered the corporation to remove the dairies operating in Bairagarh area reluctant to shift to the nearby site of Tumda village. During the sitting, additional commissioner, BMC, MP Singh, had informed that despite the site being developed by it, none of the dairies operating in Bairagarh came forward regarding shifting their operations to the site. The tribunal had then ordered that if the dairies didn’t approach BMC by July 9, they should be demolished from July 10.

“Till July 9, none of the 132 identified dairies came to BMC. From July 10, it started demolishing the dairies as per order of NGT. On July 10, 30 dairies were removed while on Tuesday, 13 were removed. Till Tuesday none of the dairies approached BMC. The action would continue on Wednesday and upcoming days also till all the dairies are removed from the area,” said health officer, BMC, Rajiv Saxena. However, while speaking to Free Press, another BMC official on condition of anonymity said the dairy owners should have been given some time to shift.

“It is not their fault because they would obviously first demand proper facilities at the sites which at present, are not there. It is the question of their living. How can they just shift the dairy and leave their cattle in the open under rains? They were not reluctant but were demanding adequate facilities before shifting, which is a valid demand. But then it is the order of tribunal which has to be followed by everyone,” said the official.
