BHOPAL: Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) proposal to take over the colonies seems more like poll gimmick to lure voters ahead of the civic polls slated later this year.
A rule prohibit taking over of colonies unless the developer applies for it. Criteria laid by the civic body also make it difficult for the townships to be taken over by it.
BMC on Wednesday during its budget session had proposed taking over the townships having all necessary infrastructure including water supply pipelines, over head tank or sump tank, road network and parking and play ground.
Township having resident welfare association would not be much interested in the proposal as all their works are being well managed by the association and private agencies.
Besides, the colonies which lacks such managing bodies and do not have necessary infrastructure would not be entertained by the municipal body because of the listed conditions.
Residents of such colonies had time and again approached the authorities urging them to take over civil work, however, the municipal body has remained unresponsive.
BMC has a list of 999 colonies that might be taken over, however, till date none of developers associated with these townships has applied for it.
