Bhopal: Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) general council meeting will be held in the first week of June. The budget meet was proposed in February but got delayed and then deferred as the model code of conduct for Lok Sabha election came in force. Shankar Makoriya, a member of mayor-in-council, confirmed that budget meet is likely to be held any day after June 5. “We will have some new projects as well as some pending projects would also be incorporated in the budget,” he informed.
Many of the pending projects of the municipal body will also gain pace speed as many works were hit due to deployment of officers on election duty. With the lifting of the model code has paved the way for the inauguration of smart road. The municipal budget is likely to be of around Rs 1700 crore. The civic body might propose some new developmental projects, while it may also include some of the projects proposed in the last budget.
According to sources, during its general council meet, the BMC might reannounce opening of cow crematorium, which was proposed last year in the budget. The project is yet to see the light of the day and in the coming meeting the civic body might increase its budget. Besides, the city might have a few more hawkers’ corners. At present, Bhopal has only seven hawkers’ corner, the municipal body is mulling to open such 70 dedicated spaces in the city. With the opening of a hawkers’ corner in every ward, the issue of encroachments by vendors might be addressed to a great degree. Project including boulevard street and arch bridge work will catch speed, as the municipal body has not the time and required human resource to focus on the its development ventures.
