Bhopal: The much touted radio installed by Bhopal Municipal Corporation at Roshanpura Square under the ‘Kabad se Jugaad’ scheme has gone silent as it was no music to the ears of locals. The residents of the area resented the blaring music being played on the huge radio, made through scraps, at the intersection.

The residents stating that it was causing a noise pollution in the area had approached the pollution board forcing the BMC to temporarily suspend its broadcast. However, the radio continues to play music for a while during evening hours.

The radio station in association with the Red FM played uninterrupted music throughout the day. The authorities believed that the music being played by the radio station would entertain the people, however, they were very wrong, as blaring music from radio became a major nuisance, distracting the commuters.

The much hyped project of the civic body was first of its kind in the state and the fact that it used only scraps for the radio was its unique feature. Mayor Alok Sharma and municipal commissioner Priyanka Das had inaugurated radio station with much fanfare spreading the message of cleanliness across the city. The entire Roshanpura Square reverberated with the music played by the radio station, however, for the commuters, residents and shopkeepers it was too loud to bear.

However, BMC health officer Harshit Tiwari claimed that music being played by radio station was under the prescribed audible limits. There was a complaint of noise pollution on CM helpline and thereafter we temporarily closed the station, said Tiwari adding that the BMC has approached the pollution control board over the issue.

Once we procure a no objection certificate from the board stating that music being played at the radio station was under permissible limits, we will resume the broadcast, he added. The radio was set up using scraps purchased by the residents of the city. The aim of using scraps was to make people understand that scraps can also be used in a creative way. Mayor and commissioner had also invited transgenders during its inauguration.
