Bhopal: Heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of Madhya Pradesh despite light rain and hailstorm on Wednesday. While Katni witnessed hailstorm with light rain, Chhattarpur and Hoshangabad experienced light showers.
Weatherman said that pre-monsoon activities as well as hot weather will continue to prevail in the state. Mercury crossed the 40 degrees mark at many places in the state. Khargone was the hottest place in the state with a high of 45.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Rajgarh with 44.5 degrees Celsius and Shajapur with 44.4 degrees Celsius.
The MeT department has warned of thunder showers accompanied with dust storm in Mandla, Balaghat, Dindori, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria and Bhopal districts in next 24 hours.
Thundershower accompanied with dust storm and strong winds are likely to occur at some places in Ashoknagar, Betul, Bhopal, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Datia, Guna, Gwalior, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Katni, Narsinghpur, Panna, Raisen, Rajgarh, Sagar, Satna, Sehore, Seoni, Shivpuri, Tikamgarh and Vidisha districts in next couple of hours.
The state capital continued to experience scorching heat on Wednesday. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 42.5 degree Celsius and a minimum temperature of 29.8 degree Celsius. Indore recorded maximum temperature of 41.7 degree Celsius while it recorded a minimum temperature of 25.4 degree Celsius.
According to Meteorological department, the pre-monsoon season begins in March and lasts till May. Pre–Monsoon activities such as thunderstorm, dust storm, thundershowers and high velocity winds are likely to peak in the month of May. Although these activities have already begun in most parts of India, dry and hot weather conditions are being witnessed across the states of Central and West India. Heat wave conditions are likely to peak during the mid of May. However, respite is likely to come in by the end of the month as Southwest Monsoon will start setting in.
