BHOPAL: The Supreme Court disposing the petition filed by former chief minister Digvijay Singh in Vyapam scam, has enthused the state government and the ruling BJP to no end. The CBI has rejected the allegation of tampering with the hard disk, levelled by Singh, on the basis of the report of Central Forensic Laboratory. The CBI, in its report submitted to the Supreme Court, has refuted the allegation of tampering.
Post this development, the BJP launched a scathing attack on Singh. State president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan said Singh had wasted the court’s time and had tarnished the image of the state. The BJYM has announced that it will burn Singh’s effigy across the state. Cooperatives minister Vishwas Sarang celebrated by bursting firecrackers in BJP office. Slogans were raised against Singh too.
On the other hand, Congress has gone on the back foot. Congress chief spokesman KK Mishra said BJP is creating confusion after Supreme Court’s decision. Mishra said if the hard disk was not tampered with then why did the CBI not take action against Uma Bharati, whose name was there in the hard disk.
SC deadline to quicken probe
The probe into the Vyapam scam will speed up with the Supreme Court issuing directives to complete investigations within three months. The CBI has been investigating the scam for around one-and-a-half years now. Most of the high profile accused have been granted bail and the CBI could submit charge-sheets in only a few cases. With the Supreme Court laying down a deadline, the CBI will have to work faster. The statements of many of the accused have not been recorded yet by the CBI. Sources in the CBI said the probe has reached near conclusion and its outcome will soon come to the fore. RTI activist Ajay Dubey maintains that the CBI should investigate the role of a Union minister, the wife of a minister and a former governor in the scam.
