Bhopal: Bhopal is the cleanest state capital of the country. This was announced in cleanliness survey 2019 results on Wednesday.
However, among 4,000 cities competing for cleanest city tag, it stood 19th. It was s a fall from grace for the city as it was ranked second in this category in 2018 and 2017 surveys.
Bhopal Mayor Alok Sharma received the award for being the cleanest state capital from President Ram Nath Kovind in an award function held in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Mayor Alok Sharma said, “It is a proud moment for us to have received the award from President for cleanest state capital. We have done out best, but frequent transfer of officials in civic body hit our efforts. Hence, we slipped.”
Khargone slips
After Khargone slips from 15 to 17 position in the list, Khargone municipality chief municipal officer Nishikant Shukla expressed discontent over the rankings saying that Khargone deserved much better ranking this year as we did lots of work and were anticipating better ranking this year. On the otherhand, Khargone MLA Ravi Joshi quoted petty politics behind all this. Joshi claimed that BJP awarded top rankings to BJP MLA cities and poor rankings to the cities or town which belongs to Congress MLA.
