Bhopal: Bhopal Municipal Corporation paid Rs 2 lakh for culvert that wasn’t built

Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is stuck in a controversy after a revealation that the culvert which was built in 2016, was never built. The work of development begun only after a man filed a complaint against the officials involved in it.

The BMC had only released payment for the work and that too, to the tune of Rs 2 lakh but did nothing and the matter was highlighted when complainant Govind Jaat, filed an RTI for it. According to Jaat, he had filed a complaint about the culvert which was sanctioned in Shiv Nagar area under ward number 31.

He said that the BMC officials kept dilly dallying when he asked about the status of the work after which he filed an RTI. Now, that he has filed a complaint with BMC officials with a copy of RTI about the work which was shown done on papers but was never done- the BMC has started the work.

Jaat said that he has filed a complaint with engineering section and is now awaiting the reply. He also accused local corporator Amit Sharma and assistant engineer Shishubindu for the fault and said that they were aware about the matter but they did nothing until he filed the RTI.
