Bhopal: The students of Benazir College on Friday staged demonstration to protest against relocation of college premises at Kolar Road. They staged protest in front of the college. The students also burned the effigy of area MLA Rameshwar Sharma.
One of the students wishing anonymity said most of the students took admission in Benazir College because they are from Old Bhopal. Once the college is shifted at Kolar Road, they will have to travel a long distance. “It is injustice to students,” he said and added that students will intensify agitation if the college will be shifted. Benazir College is situated in Jahangirabad, which is 10 kilometres away from Kolar Road.
The building currently occupied by Benazir College will be allotted to academic wing of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi University (ABVHU). Presently, classes of academic wing are conducted at a building near Raj Bhawan. This building has to be given to MP Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC).
Recently, MPTDC officials had created a ruckus at the university while the classes were underway. They demanded that premises be vacated immediately. However, ABVHU officials told them that they will not shift unless Benazir College vacates present premises.
Benazir College principal Dr Vibha Shukla said college will be shifted soon at Kolar Road. She said state government has issued directives in this regard. However, she said she is not aware of any protest.
