Bhopal beautification fund misused: Congress corporator Mohammed Safiq

BHOPAL : Despite sufficient budgetary allocation in various heads, which come under purview of beautification, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) seems to have pushed the beautification drive under the carpet.

Benches placed for public on Link Road no-1 and Link Road no-2 are broken and not suitable to sit. Similarly, special street lights which were fitted on these roads are also not functional and many of them are broken.  Pebble blocks have been damaged. All these show that BMC administration has turned a blind eye toward the beautification.

Congress corporator Mohammed Safiq said, “Fund allocated in the name of beautification is utilised for other purposes. This is why it did not reflect to public. Funds are allocated on various heads so it will have to integrate to get total fund allocated in budget in the name of beautification. But the benches are broken at various places at Link Road no-1 and no-2. Lights are not in proper shape. So it seems that administration has shelved the entire beautification project.”

Leader of opposition Mohammed Saghir said, “In fact, beautification is waste sector in BMC. So, budgetary allocations varied on different heads like street lights fitting and repairing, installation of iron benches, putting of pebble blocks, development and maintenance of central verger, plantation.  So there is no single point allocation for beautification of the city. It is true that there is much budgetary allocation in the name of beautification but fund is diverted to other heads.”

MiC member Krishan Mohan Soni said, “The fund is allocated on different heads under purview of beautification like fitting of benches, lights, poles, maintenance of garden and central verge. We will look into matter about the proper maintenance. We have already brought the issues like broken benches and lights into notice of officials concerned. Beautification has been in priority list of BMC administration and it will not be ignored at any cost.”
