Bhopal: The minister for jail, Bala Bachchan signalled at reinquiry into infamous 2016 Bhopal jailbreak in which eight SIMI operatives had escaped and later killed in a police encounter. “A report on Bhopal jailbreak has been sought from the jail officials and if required fresh inquiry will be instituted into it,” the minister told reporters after holding his maiden meeting with the department officials here on Sunday.
The minister inquired about the infamous ‘Bhopal Jailbreak’ during his first interaction with the department officials after assuming officer. The minister asked the authorities to submit a detailed report of the incident. The minister also inquired about the security in the state jails and prisons. During the discussion, the matter of Bhopal Jail Break also came up. The officials also raised the issue of overcrowded jails and also vacant posts lying in the department.
The minister assured that the department will prepare proposals to construct new jails and also increase the barracks in the existing ones. Pending proposals regarding vacant posts would be reviewed and fresh proposals will be made for providing better facilities to the staff as well as jail inmates, said the minister.
