Second such incident in area over the week
BHOPAL: A timber shop was gutted in an inferno resulting from a short circuit at Barkhedi on the second consecutive Sunday. Last Sunday also a timber shop was gutted in the same way. There is a series of timber shops at Bharat Talkies and there is petrol pump hard by. Chances of a major mishap thus always lurk in the area. There was plan to shift all the timber shops to Chandpur but it has not been implemented so far.
The latest fire broke out on Sunday morning. Immediately fire brigade was called. It took two hours to put off the fire. The entire stretch covering Barkhedi, Bag Farhat, Bag Umarao Dulha, Pull Bogda, Bharat Talkies would have been affected if the fire was not timely doused.
Last Sunday, an inferno gutted stock of timbers worth Rs 30 lakh at Mubarak Timber. Nearly three dozen fire fighters were pressed into service to douse the fire otherwise.
Mubarak Timber proprietor Mashuq Ali said, “Last time my timber shop was gutted. This time, another timber shop has been gutted. Reason is same: Short circuit. There is a petrol pump here, which is a real concern for us.”
Fire brigade in-charge Akthar Ali said, “Immediately we pressed the fire fighters into service. It took us two hours to douse the fire. It is the second fire incident within a week. Last Sunday, Mubarak Timber shop was gutted.”
