Bhopal: All eyes EC goes tough on social media

BHOPAL: Election commission has started awareness campaign for monitoring of social media. After a high level meeting with heads of various social media platforms in New Delhi, the chief electoral officers too have started steps to monitor social media messages.

Election commission has given instructions to the police and administration as well to keep a tab on messages with political overtones and implications. Moreover, messages based on religions or spreading hatred too are being monitored.

The group admins of social media will be held responsible for any message that is in violation of the model code of conduct. The result of it could be seen percolating down as several WhatsApp groups have now made their groups close and only admins can send the messages- to avoid any controversy.

Group admin of a WhatsApp group, Shantanu said that he has restricted the group and only he can update the group as it is difficult to control the group members in highly electrified atmosphere. Election commission has also formed a social media monitoring team that is keeping an eye on platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram and others.
