Bhopal: Shocked over the alleged suicide of a medical student of the AIIMS, Jodhpur, the MBBS students of the institute here have demanded setting up of a grievance ‘redressal cell’ on the campus for students.
Rashmi Yadav (20), a native of Alwar district had taken admission in AII India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur, on July 23. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room on the night of July 26. In a suicide note, Rashmi advised a teacher to behave properly with students.
This was the fourth suicide case at AIIMS, Jodhpur, in as many years. Expressing shock over the Jodhpur incident, Dr Guru Prasad, students’ union ex-president said that an impartial probe into the suicide of the student should be conducted. The medical students here had taken out a candle march on Sunday evening.
Stressing on the need to address the grievances of the students, Prasad said that we are demanding developing a system at AIMMS or setting up of a cell on campus where the students could come and get their issues addressed. “We had raised the issue of freedom of speech just couple of month ago as there voices of students were suppressed in absence of director in AIIMS here,” said Prasad.
Now, after Dr Sarman Singh joined as permanent director, the situation has improved a bit, now we are demanding a redressal cell here at AIIMS where aggrieved student could voice his/her grievance and get redressal, he added.
