Bhopal: Police on Sunday arrested absconding 26-year-old man accused of committing robbery in the house of daughter-in-law of ex-minister Babu Kamta Prasad and fleeing with valuables worth Rs 7 lakh on June 17. The accused during interrogation informed the police that he committed the crime because he wanted to gift a costly mobile phone to his girlfriend on Eid, the police said.
According to the police, accused, Sahab alias Salman, of Housing Board Colony in Karond, was arrested on Sunday near his residence following a tip-off. The accused informed the police that he hid the stolen valuables including Rs 1.5 lakh cash and about 200gm gold jewellery in a dilapidated building in the forests of Berasia.
“The accused had studied till Class 8. He was unemployed and was involved in a love affair. However, in order to hide his educational qualification and unemployment he lied to his girlfriend that he worked in an MNC in MP Nagar. He also told the police that he had promised to gift a costly mobile phone to her on the occasion of Eid for which he committed the robbery,” said ASP (zone-3), Rajesh Bhadauriya adding a case was registered against him under relevant sections of IPC and investigations were on.
On June 17, in Shahjahanabad he had barged into the house of Anjana Thakur (35), daughter-in-law of Kamta Prasad in the afternoon and managed to flee with the valuables. However, while escaping Thakur saw him and gave a brief chase to nab him during which he left his motorbike behind. The whole incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed in the locality which helped the police in their probe.
