Bhopal: AAP activists cane-charged while laying siege to CM House

BHOPAL: The police cane-charged the activists of Aam Admi Party trying to lay siege to CM House on Monday. The police intelligence was unaware that the activists were going to do the same.

The AAP activists staged demonstration against the power charges fixed by the state government, at TT Nagar Dussehra Maidan. State coordinator Alok Agarwal alleged the state government was selling power on high rates in the state, but it was selling power on cheaper rates to other states. He also alleged the government was paying illogical amount to the private power producer companies.The agreement made by the government and companies had raised the power scam amount to Rs 50,000 crore.

After attending demonstration the activists formed a rally and marched towards CM House. The police department had not raised any barricades near Dussehra Maidan. The activists freely crossed all over the way and at Jal Bhawan, the police tried to stop them.

SMD Anil Singh rushed towards the CM House and also the police stopped the activists, but when they did not stop, cops opened cane charge. The police also thrashed press photographers, some of who received injuries. In the unplanned police action, many activists and police personal got injured.

ASP, Rajesh Chandel said the party had taken permission to organise only a demonstration and to submit a memorandum. But after submitting the memorandum, on the call of Alok Agarwal, they started marching towards the CM House. They were stopped mid-way, but the activists pushed the female members in front and they started pinching the police officials.

In the ruckus around 10 activists and eight policemen received injuries. Three photographers also got injured. He also added some activists were arrested from Polytechnic Square heading towards CM House. The police in total arrested 381 activists and later released them on bail. He added the police might register a case against the activists for breach of contract, creating sensation and giving threat to law and order.
