BHOPAL: Artisans from 14 handloom weaving states of the country are showcasing their silk products under nine-day- exhibition-cum-sale ‘Silk & Cotton Fab of India’ at Community Hall, Ravishankar Nagar, Bittan Market.
A silk sari from Kashmir which weighs 90 grams is one of the major attractions of the exhibition. Speaking about the sari, Shahid, a vendor from Kashmir said, “We brought one of the light weight saris in the fest. It is prepared by very fine cotton. Besides, we also brought some pashmina shawls which is prepared after reading 400-year-old design books in Persian language. People of the valley weave pashmina shawls after reading Persian code, written by Iran.”
Besides, some other traditional silk saris including, kanjivaram, tusser, katha and other in stuffs georgette, chiffon stuffs of West Bengal, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh are also on display. Some suits and dupatta in same stuffs are also available in block prints for women. The exhibition is being organised by Gramin Hastkala Vikas Samiti.
